Top Tips: House on the Hill Toy Museum

Every now and then, the girls at Oaf HQ like to let you know what we have been getting up to and after visiting the House on the Hill Toy Museum this Easter, I felt compelled to do just that. Located in the village of Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex, the museum homes the largest privately owned toy collection in the country and is guaranteed to bring out the big kid in all of us. Imagine stepping back into your childhood and finding all those things you thought you'd never see again. That's just how you'll feel when you visit this place exhibiting everything from fairground coin machines to film and music memorabilia. The museum is run by a father and son who have built up this collection with the help of contributions and donations since the 1960's. I fell madly in love with this E.T. replica above! En route to the museum is the Dinosaur Encounter where I got pally with a cave man in my Big Cat Dress - a fitting choice I think you'll agree? For an extra £1, you can visit the Haunted Manor House where you walk through dark alleys with no idea what's going to come around the corner. Was I scared? HELL YES! The museum is lucky enough to own Princess Diana's childhood Tracker Bike. I imagine this book would be a hit with all those princess wannabes after Prince Harry's heart following the royal wedding. The museum is full of plenty of photo opportunities which I embraced, obviously. So if you're looking for a fun trip with a difference then I would highly recommend this place. You might even get to each lunch with a peacock like I did. Entry to the museum is £9.50 per adult which includes access to the equally impressive Mountfitchet Castle and the Dinosaur Encounter. For more details check out their website at www.stanstedtoymuseum.com but trust me, you've got to see it to believe it.
