Have A Nice Day

With the rainy weather that's been all over the country at the moment, we've been wearing our Have A Nice Day Necklace non-stop to remind us to do just that... And we thought we'd compile a list of a few of our favourite places to visit in the Carnaby Street area (other than our Lazy Oaf shop of course!) to help you have a nice day too! The Carnaby Book Exchange is a space where you can pick up a book, relax in an armchair and explore the vast expanses of fashion, travel, music, photography, design and history, to name but a few topics.  You are able to leave a book that you have read, and in return take one away from the space for free. Located in Kingly Court, just off Carnaby Street, you can even share your thoughts and recommendations on the book you are leaving behind. A must visit for all book lovers. The Society Club is a bookshop/art gallery/cafe selling a carefully curated selection of items ranging from vintage furniture to first-edition books, homemade jam, limited-edition prints, moustache wax and dog food. A communal table runs through the centre of the shop, aiming to bring like-minded people together and mingle over tea, coffee, pastries and cakes. Book launches, poetry readings, storytelling and live music sessions take place regularly. The last event was a Q&A with Andy Warhol’s friend and The Factory’s in-house photographer, Leee Black Childers. With a 25-year track record in the industry and enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff, Gosh! Comics remains London’s must-visit store for those who love the medium. Their range of graphic novels is second to none, with everything from translated European albums to mainstream superhero antics; vintage children’s books to contemporary graphic fiction; compulsively readable manga to cutting edge small press: they’ve got something for everyone. They also regularly have instore events and signings with some of the best graphic novliests in the industry. Lucy in Disguise is the brainchild of sisters Lily Allen and Sarah Owen.  It sells a carefully curated selection of vintage clothing, with each item being hand picked by the Lucy in Disguise team. Whether you want to buy a 1920’s Flapper dress or hire some Studio 54 sparkle, you will find the right outfit for you at Lucy in Disguise. You can even add the finishing touches to your look at our in-house salon, The Hair and Make up Dept. Consider it your one stop shop for a head to toe vintage makeover. Riflemaker is a contemporary art space in London co-founded by Virginia Damtsa and Tot Taylor. Riflemaker exhibits and represents emerging artists. Housed on five floors of an historic gunmaker's workshop off Carnaby Street the gallery has worked closely with English Heritage to preserve this unique architectural building. Poetry and music, film shows, talks/discussions and performance events are held each Monday evening. Aint Nothin But The Blues Bar is London's effortlessly authentic answer to the blues bars of Memphis, showcasing great live music every night for free. Regular blues jam nights take place where audience members are invited to take to the stage and play the blues. Sometimes there are guest appearances from prominent blues artists.
