This is How You Do It: Naomi Shimada
This season, we are turning the tables and asking you to tell us how you wear Lazy Oaf. So, we have hand picked a selection of our favourite bloggers and trend setters from far and wide and have asked them to show us how they wear our stuff. Today we have the pleasure of presenting you with mini mouse loving model Naomi Shimada who captured her Lazy Oaf looks on holiday in sunny Jamaica. You might recognise Naomi as she was one of the faces of our SS1O collection (see here). Naomi wears the Mono Shirt and Crosses T-shirt. What's your name, where do you come from and what do you do? My name is Naomi Shimada. I was born in Tokyo, raised between Japan/Spain/Londontown. I'm lucky enough to work as a plus sized model that eats lots of pasta and cheeseburgers! Talk us through your Lazy Oaf looks These photos were taken in Jamaica so it's a summery look! My Minnie Mouse denim jeans and banana earrings for the Mono Shirt and short denim Levi's cutoffs and Raybans as well as my signature jewels with the Lazy Oaf Crosses T-shirt. Your blog, naomishimada.blogspot.com, is an absolute visual treat, what's your one favourite image that you have uploaded to date? This is so hard! I constantly find new images that get me so excited about life and this crazy colourful world we live in ... but recently I've been obsessed with this one (below) how can you not love an electric blue poodle on a hot pink background??!!
Name five things you are totally loving right now
Tie dye, anything watermelon, old studio 1 reggae compilations, Heidi Kenney food pillows for my house and cheese pizza! What does 2011 hold for Naomi Shimada? I have a cover for the New Scientist I've done with Damien Hirst coming out this spring, lots of good work to do alongside 'All Walks Beyond the Catwalk' and amazing foundation headed up by Erin O'Connor and Caryn Franklin to help introduce more diversity into fashion, meaning: more races, ages and sizes. Beauty doesn't come in just a single prototype!!!! Also trying to keep going with my hustle to try and make plus size more fashionable and spread the word that you don't have to be size zero to be proud of the way you look and work in this industry!!!Our verdict: With her love for dogs, burgers and all things Disney, Naomi is definitely our kinda girl! How cute are those Minnie Mouse shorts and how much do we want a pair of banana earrings to wear this summer? We're also loving the sound of the work she is doing with All Walks, you can find out more on their website at http://allwalks.org.
