2014 has been a top year for us! We hung out with robots in Tokyo, opened a pop-up store in Sydney, gave our shop a shiny new refit and teamed up with our favourite lazy cat Garfield. Here's a round up of the best bits... This year we celebrated our love and obsession with Japan by taking Lazy Oaf to Tokyo to shoot our SS'14 collections, hang out with some of the cities most talented creatives and fully embrace everything that makes the place so special. Highlights included spending an afternoon with a robotic dinosaur, raiding Harajuku's 100 Yen store and dressing up like Sailor Moon for the Purikura booth. We loved our trip so much that we bought it back to our London store with our Tokyo Takeover pop-up giving us the chance to profile some of our favourite Japanese labels and artists including Little Sunny Bite, Chika Takei and Bunny Bissoux. In fact, you can buy a slice of the kawaii pie as a limited selection of designs and artwork from Tokyo are now available online. In 2014 our founder Gemma Shiel fulfilled one of her childhood dreams when she paired up with Jim Davis' iconic cartoon cat, and the epitome of Lazy Oaf, Garfield, to design a extra special collection. Celebrating Garfield's apathetic attitude and love for unhealthy snacks, we presented you with comic strip shirts, cat face swimsuits and Egyptian jeans in all of our favourite candy colours. Set designer Rosy Nicholas bought the comic strips to life for our launch party where we served up Garfield's favourite snack lasagne. We even met a real life Garfield when we visited the home of Persian Exotic Mr. Milk the Cat, who wins our award for the best model of year wearing our pink beanie. OK the cats out of the bag, we love animals, and this year we took this love to the next level by making them the star of our photo shoots. Things got all creepy crawly for our men's winter shoot with spiders crawling over hands, snakes slithering through hair and chameleons climbing up arms. For our Looney Tunes collection, we recruited our very own Bugs Bunny for our magic rabbit video and had a pair of Porky Pigs joining us on set for our lookbook. As a brand who are rooted in graphic design, we always like to celebrate the latest talents in illustration and this is something we have done a lot of in 2014. Our regular blog feature 'Studio Tours' has let us delve into the spaces and brains of up and coming artists taking us across London, Tokyo and beyond. We also teamed up with one of the UK's leading illustrators Hattie Stewart who filled the store wall with a landscape of rainbow teddies especially for our Tokyo Takeover event. To coincide with our Space Oddity collection, we asked some of our favourite illustrators to reimagine space and our Depop account launched with a bang when we got artists to create original prints based on Looney Tunes characters. If you're a fan of illustrators projects like this then watch this space as we have something big coming in 2015...! But of course, none of the above would be even half as exciting if we didn't have all of you to share it with! And thanks to Instagram, this year we have got to see more of you than ever before. Nothing makes us more excited than getting to see how all of you are wearing your Lazy Oaf around the world and this year you've excelled our expectations. Basically what we're trying to say is we love you.
